Dortmund draw Mainz 1-1Reyna comes off bench in 72'BVB winless in three-straight Bundesliga matchesWHAT HAPPENED?
A stunning free kick from Julian Brandt opened the scoring for Dortmund and it was a dominant showing until they neared the halftime whistle, with Sepp Van Den Berg equalizing for the away side just before the break. A halftime switch saw captain Mats Hummels exit for Niklas Sule, while two more subs arrived in the 63rd minute in the form of Sebastien Haller and Samuel Bamba.
Reyna finally came on in the 72nd minute, and seemingly thought he scored the winner in stoppage time, but the offside flag being raised ruined any celebrations at Signal Iduna Park. It was another poor Bundesliga showing for the Black and Yellow, their third-straight match with points dropped in the league.

After Tuesday's clash, Reyna hasn't even played 230 minutes of Bundesliga action for Dortmund this season. He was the third attacking sub brought on and is seemingly the most out of favor among the group.
Reyna, however, showed a bright moment late on when he scored what he thought was the winner. Brandt, the goalscorer, lined up a perfect chipped free kick and it sailed directly over every Mainz defender. The USMNT midfielder leaped, threw a head on it and celebrated as it went into the back of the net, but the offside flag was raised and Reyna's head went into his hands.
GettyUSMNT IMPACT
Reyna needs to start playing competitive minutes if he wants to start in the 2024 Copa America for the USMNT. Whether that means a January move away from the Bundesliga side or him competing at a higher level on the training pitch, something needs to happen. If a transfer doesn't come about in January, it will be hard for Berhalter to justify playing Reyna at all come June and July.
GOAL'S RATINGS
Gio Reyna (7/10): He created two chances in stoppage time off the bench, but failed to stay onside on one and find the back of the net on the other. Regardless, he did well in his limited showing.
